     SCAM ALERT! TEXT MESSAGE SCAM

WARNING - New Scam:  Text messages are going out to random people asking them to call a number because their card has been restricted.  This number goes to an automated system that is requesting card number and PINs.  DO NOT GIVE ANY INFORMATION - this is a bogus company.

Be on the look out for text messages claiming to be from Maui FCU or other financial institutions. These are most likely a scam. We will never alert you to a problem with your account through a text message. We will either send you notification in the postal mail or will talk to you in person. If you receive a text message claiming to be from Maui FCU, DO NOT respond to it and do not call or go to any websites they may direct you to.

Phishing is the act of sending an email to a user falsely claiming to be an established, legitimate enterprise in an attempt to scam the user into surrendering private information that will be used for identity theft.  The email directs the user to visit a Web site where they are asked to update personal information, such as passwords and

credit card, social security, and bank accounts, that the legitimate organization already has.  The Web site is bogus and set up only to steal the user’s information.  Maui FCU does not send emails that request that members confirm their account or personal information.  If you receive such an email delete it immediately.  Do not be compromised by these emails no matter how legitimate it looks.
